And here is a poser a shop some where near Mathew Street...1960's - 1970's.....sold the most amazing psychedelic loon pants....

On the first two Lizzie..
There is a B&W pic on the net somewhere of that Chelsea Girl Shop...I bet MOJO will have a Copy.. Not seen him for a while thouigh cos his PC has a virus.. hopefully he will return soon
George Henry Lees dropped the individualistic name a few years back and took the Corporate Name of John Lewis. It moved out of its Church Sttreet/ Basnett street site and into brand new purpose built store at the Hanover Street end of The new Liverpool One Paradise Street Shopping Complex.
Rapid Hardware took the old Basnett Street Store,,, went bust and recently reopened again under a revised Company name, but it is struggling and has let out some of the floor space to discount stores.  T.K. Max have the lower floors of the Church Street [Old Bon Marche] GH lee building, and it was announced only this week that a Hotel chain plans to convert the remaining 5 floors into a new City Centree Hotel..............Ooops that was all  a bit long winded , Sorry about that

Edit :  I remember Pans People on TOTP prancing around in Loon Pants  Grrrrrrrrrreat !

Hi Liz,
"Chelsea Girl" is now a phone shop, "Watson,Prickard" is now the "Slug & Lettuce" restaurant/bar,and I think the "loon" shop you are thinking of,is probably "Cape"in Leigh st,off Tarleton st. which was a mecca for any trogs, wanting the latest "headgear" I remember my first pair....they had the desired effect!!!!! Very Happy
There was one other similar type of shop, called "Silly Billy's"one of whose t-shirts I've still got(up in the loft!) but that was up the other end of town!
I think Brownbox has explained the fate of G.H. Lee's! Laughing

Lizzie, my post wasn't quite the right answer re Chelsea girl. I meant the company is now, as far as I understand it, changed to River Island. (I could be wrong) But as Mojo says, the actual shop is a now a mobile phone shop.  Very Happy Doesn't take much to confuse me.
