Action Fraud!

As you know,I've been having problems with UKASH police notice demands, which have so far, defied all attempts to be removed! In frustration,I phoned the police,as this type of scam is a fraud, and was passed on to "Action Fraud" who deal  with this, and other fraudulent activites! They took my details, and gave me a crime number, and told me this scam is aparently changing it's appearance on a monthly basis, but could offer no practical assistance, other than "don't pay up"!! What was stressed, was, that it was important to report these events, which in turn, would raise it's level of priority to the authorities,so if anyone here has the misfortune, here is the phone no' 0300 123 2040.

Mojo, I'm sorry you still have problems, this sort of thing really gets my goat (where did that saying come from?)
Good for you for telling the police as I don't think it should be taken lightly either. Everyone should flood the police with reports and hopefully more will be done to stop these arse holes.
Lizzie

Sorry to hear this MOJO.......hope it all gets sorted soon for you

Thanks all! I could easily re-format my p/c,but that's where I've got my pic's saved, nearly 10,000 of them, and it would mean losing the lot!!! Rolling Eyes (another lesson learnt!)

Good God MOJO. I see now why you are so perplexed over this . 10,000 pics and non of them saved external to your P.C, thats sounds like a few years worrh of 'clicking and saving' at risk there.   When mine took the complete knock recently I had a fair bit of saved data suddenly innaccessible , It sure is a nightnare scenario.Fortunately the Computer Geek was able to remove the undamaged harddrive ,temporarily install it in a similar Lappy and saved everything for me to a USB stick . If your hardrive is infected then you obviously have a more serious dilema.. Good luck with it MOJO, the people who spread these viruses cause complete misery by their actions.
MOJO

......exactly,all that finger clicking! I have got some of them saved, including work related documentation, but being something of a procrastinator, didn't update them,so it's my own fault! I'm optimistic it can be saved, but I'll definitely be upgrading my safety stuff, and procedures!
Barbie

Mojo, I lost a load of photos on my old pc. I hadn't saved them. Now most of my photos are saved on a memory stick. I must remember to put my others on too as this pc is playing up somewhat.
I hope you get them back.
MOJO

Finally got rid of my "ransomeware" which is what it's called,by simply installing a copy of AVG anti-virus,(but I suppose any would do?) after much unsuccesful twiddling around by myself, and others! Great,I thought, then I found out why it's called "Dirty Decrypt"!!!!
It's left me with many, though not all, photo's that I can't open,as they've been replaced by a sign that offers a decryption of the pic' if I click on the sign,or e-mail them.....and guess what,it's the same tossers who encrypted them in the first place!!
I've yet to try attempting any decrypyting myself,if it's possible............so any suggestions are welcome! But anyway, it will keep me occupied during the dark winter nights Rolling Eyes Laughing

....and talking about sticks,Barbie, they're great, but oh so easy to lose!!!

My recommendation would be

JJR Computers

Address: 558 Prescot Rd, Liverpool, Merseyside L13 3DE

Phone:0151 475 8787

Hours: Monday hours 09:0017:30

They sorted out my pc once. Usually a bit of a wait as they are popular.

Bottom of Booth Street I think it is.

Barbie

I have to say mine's not behaving too well lately. I am thinking of dropping it off at JJR's for them to look at.
MOJO

Thanks for that,Barbie! Smile
MOJO

Just to let you know, that none, of the 5 repair shops that I contacted, including J.J.R,had even heard of the particular variant,of the crap I've had on my p/c! I even called into "PC World" on the insistance of a friend, who told me one of the staff in there, was an "expert",but just received a blank look!?
I eventually got it off,by inserting A.V.G. anti-virus on a memory stick,(as it had even disabled my CD drive!) ran a full scan, and it found the bladdy thing in 6 different places!!
So,now it's gone,but it's encrypted many of my pic's, which now just show a sign,telling me,if you want to un-encrypt this photo'.....you must pay!!!
I've put all the encrypted pic's in on a memory stick,in the hope that eventually, someone will figure out a way of saving them, such as a site called "bleepingcomputer.com" which has people continually working on ways to combat these things, and has many free solutions to viruses, etc,if you ever have the misfortune to be infected by one!
Barbie

Flipping heck Mojo, it's a bad one innit?  Confused
Can you upload one of these pics to show me how it looks please? I will ask my son then. It maybe just some small thing that needs deleting. My son actually does softwear engineering but he may know, or maybe his boss in work knows.

Sorry to hear you still have the problem MOJO.. So much for the Geekiness of those 5 Geeks .My experience of PC world is that their main aim is to flog you a new one. I hope its sorted soon for you,, I know those pics you have encrypted will be priceless to you.
MOJO

I've just tried loading one,and it wouldn't,so I'll try again later! I'm assuming it will be safe to do this,if I can????
Barbie

I don't know Mojo. I'll ask my son when he gets home tomorrow. He makes computer games as a living now, so that codes and pics innit? He may know something. Bear with me......
MOJO

Just tried again, but no luck!  Confused
Barbie

Can you do a screen shot then? Son will be home later today, can ask him then.

Try that Mojo and read the posts by people also. I hope it helps. My son not too well right now, man flu, and so will ask him for deffo tomorrow.
MOJO

Thanks for that,Barbie, though I couldn't really follow that vid'! I'm just relieved that there are people working on a solution, but I could kick myself for not removing it sooner,as I didn't realise it carried on encrypting, the longer you left it on!!! Crying or Very sad
Barbie

As I said, I will ask my son and he can ask in work, maybe someone else knows. Bear with me. Seriously hope you get your pics back!  Sad

Mojo, here is a link. Have a read through it. Maybe you could print it out and take it to a shop with you so they know what you are talking about.

Also, my son said this sounds more like malware than a virus. He said the best thing to rid the pc of malware is spybot. Now, you may already have tried this but it is all my son could come up with. He said here is the link to download it if you haven't tried it.
Make sure you download the right one, NOT where it says free download but where it says download now to the left of the screen.

Good luck, I hope some of this if not all is of use to you.

Thanks for your help Barbie(& son!) but because of it's demand for cash,it's known as "Ransomeware" pay up,or lose it!
I have actually got rid of this off my p/c,but it's the damage it's left behind,to my now encrypted pic's,which I've now saved seperately, until a way can be found to decrypt them, which looks like it's being worked on
"Kaspersky" spyware were actually advertising for a mathematician,to help them solve this one,and one or two people I know of,have been hit by this,so it's spreading.....click on the wrong (infected) photo',and it's got you! Shocked

Thanks again for the advice! Smile
Barbie

He will ask in work and also uni contacts. There has to be a way of doing it.
