Bus Journeys.

I love being about and about and I walk a lot. Sometimes though I want to travel a bit further than I can walk in the space of one day. I don't drive and public transport can prove expensive, even locally. I only get low wages and have to stretch it over bills like any of us have to.
I do like travelling on coaches as well as trains. Arriva bus services have saved my bacon though. Like today, I jumped a bus up to St Helens and there I picked up another bus which took me to Wigan. That travels through nice pretty areas. I wanted to see a museum up there but was very disappointed in it. I wouldn't recommend it at all unless you happen to live there and dont mind spending 5 minutes in it. I was travelling with my son today and I said to him, what now? He said well, lets pick up a bus to somewhere else and very randomly jumped on a bus to Southport. It took an hour and a half to get there but it was a lovely run going through places that I have not seen or places I've not seen in years.
We had a wander round Southport, sortof went down memory lane if you like, and we wasted, errm, I mean spent a few pennies in the arcade.  We were in the fair and he was remembering how it used to look when we took him and his sister there as kids. We had a nice meal in Wetherspoons before catching the bus back into Liverpool. One in town we jumped the bus home. Therefore that was 5 buses we were on in all. The total cost? 4.60 is all. (The N. West day rider) We could have travelled on as many buses as we liked all the day had we so wished. For another couple of quid, we could have got the N. West and Wales ticket and done a small tour of that lovely part of the world too. Well, that's for next time!
Hurray for Arriva! They rock!

Using this ticket again today to visit my daughter in Wigan. The bus and train would have cost me around 13. This is just 4.60 and I get a bus righ near my house and I get off almost at the bottom of my road on my return!  Razz

Yeh,those dayrider tickets are a bargain! We got one, to go into Liverpool,go on the ferry, then up to Parliament st,back into town, then home, all for 4:60! Otherwise it would have cost about 14:00! Shocked
Barbie

Well what I saved on bus fares cost me in the pub thanks to my darling daughter.  Laughing
Went into wetherspoons in Wigan, had anice meal with a glass of Purple rain. Went back the bar to get a couple more and ended up buying a pitcher full. EACH!  Embarassed  Confused   And we drank the lot too!  Embarassed

She was picked up by her dad in his car and me, had to get the bus back to St. Helens and then the other one to Liverpool. I could hardley keep my eyes open.  Laughing

I read in the Echo tonight about a mum whose little girl had an Epileptic Fit on the bus on the way to Speke, She shouted for the Arriva driver to stop so she could summon assistance, the driver ignored her and the requests of others on the bus. The woman was hysterical with worry and phoned 999 on her mobile. The ambulance service said they would call out, and told her to get the driver to stop. He took no noticed , continued on to the terminus were the Mum remonstrated with him and asked his name..., whereupon he laughed in her face and walked away.. It was only when the changeover driver arrived that the Ambulance service were contacted and given the location. The little girl was successfully treated and there is now an internal investigation taking place within Arriva ...what do you think of this ?
Barbie

Disgusting!!!!!! Glad the girl is ok and her poor mum. I am appauled.
My siser has just emailed photographs of the bus driver who a couple of days ago talked to her like she was a bag if sh*t because the travel pass she was using wouldn't work. She told him it is a new pass she is testing out for Arriva and that she has to report back on every trip she has with it. He went white she said and told her to sit down. He then procedded to drive the bus like a madman, almost crashing into a car. Why? Because he was driving and talking on his mobile and it is these phootos that have gone to Arriva.

I sure will oh and I forgot to say, when my kids took me out for my birthday, my son had words with a bus driver, he practically called my son a liar, so emails off me going in to Stagecoach. I've waited untill I found out some info and now as I have, look out!!!!! Blimey....I'm getting worn out with all this moaning to everyone  Rolling Eyes

more should do likewise barbie.... we pay for the ticket so we should receive courteous and professional  service in return.

I know it's false, but most people who work with the public, have a much better attitude now,as in "do you need help packing","hello", "goodbye" etc, etc, which usually makes me laugh to myself, knowing they probably don't give a toss, but most agree,it's much more pleasant...anyway!
So, when you hear of the tosspots that you've mentioned, especially the driver who wouldn't stop for that girl,it makes me wonder what planet they're from, and what are they like to people they know? I know they take plenty of stick from the public,at times, but that's no excuse to behave like he did,and I hope he get's the boot, and that it's reported in the "Echo"! We'll see if he's smirking then!! Evil or Very Mad
Barbie

Mojo, I agree that even if it false you have a duty to make the public feel good. Even in my job I force a smile on days when I feel low, I say enjoy your meal, when really, I have more to worry about. A small gesture goes a long way.
I have moaned about bus drivers a few weeks ago, old people gettng on dont have time to sit down before the bus is thrown into gear and off it goes. I often see oap's stagger, and it is one of the reason my mum stopped using buses in her last two years of life. They therefore deprived her of a bit of enjoyment in her life as she used to love siting down the lanny. The standared of driving has in my opinion gone down, not everyone of course but a lot, and the attitude of the likes of these mentioned stinks.
The poor kids in question:
