Possibly "O'connor's Tavern" which became "Chaucers" which was directly opposite "Kirklands",on the corner of Pilgrim st. ?

There is still a bar in there, but apparently,it came from "Plummer's"which was next door, but no more beer! Newcastle Brown was the drink to drink, when I used to go there, when it was "O'Connor's"........Happy daze! q48

Originally,it was some type of religious building...

To think what used to go on in this room..........some of those costumes might have gone down well though! Laughing

Came across these,

"Kirklands",when it was still a shop,in the early 70's,with "Atlantic" house,a seaman's hostel,next door
!

...and in 1977,as one of Liverpool's first wine bars! (excluding "Yate'sy's,of course!) Notice the original signage has been revealed, with it's royal appointment! This was the site of St.Philip's church, which went, some time in the 19th century!

Love the old pic of Kirklands.........but now I seen the fancy dress shop that does not look familiar in terms of location......the place I am thinking of was either further up or down...it was like walking  into  some ones front room as I recall,......maybe it was some sort of underground speakeasy...... Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

I need to go and have a look see

But thanks for the pics.....

Liz its not this one is it they always sold real ale its called the Cambridge

Lizzie

Nah..you see the thing is I dont think it was a pub.... Laughing

The more I think of it I swear it was some sort of a den of iniquity Shocked

I can picture going in through a front door the bar was down the hall way and to the right was the lounge where very one stood and drank warm ale.......exactly as a house is....but hey it was the 70's so who knows what it was......I blame it on the magic mushrooms...... Wink  Wink  Laughing  Laughing

I can't think of anywhere that fits that description, actually on Hardman st,but there were various clubs around Hope st,etc, such as "Chauffeurs",and the "Casablanca"! Do you think it was on that side of Hardman st.?
Lizzie

Nope it was definitely opp side to Kirklandís.....I can see the interior as if I last  went in side yesterday........I am thinking it was maybe a students union bar...or just some ones house who didnít mind a bunch of strangers knocking back ale in their lounge.....

I will be doing a recce when we come up at Chrimble time..... Wink
MOJO
