Clayton Square.

This is the site,of what became "Owen,Owen's,in 1923. This side of Clayton square, was almost identical to the opposite side, and formed the Square, which has now almost disappeared!

...this is on Clayton square,in 1888,but I can't place where?

...in 1947.

...and 1969.

...with the, then, traditional flower sellers, which I'd guess, is in the 20's,as there's a Charlie Chaplin film,on the "Prince of Wales" cinema, which became the "News Theatre, then the "Jacey",then the Blessed Sacrament church, though I'm not sure if the buildings are the same?! This pic' answers my question on where the building on Pic' 2 is,as it's next door to the cinema! Smile

Is that Theatre to the right is what was the Jacey. The Waterloo Hotel, now did that disappear in the war and the newer building in it's place is what became John Moore's Home Shopping place?
MOJO

Well it looks like it,the "Prince of Wales" site,at least becoming the "Jacey",and the hotel becoming John Moore's! I don't think I've seen bomb damage pic's to that part of town, but I'd guess that's why it was modernised!

I wonder if the Germans hadn't seen off some of our buildings, would they still be there now. Just a thought.

I donít recognize Clayton Square these days............

Back in the day though there was a little shop there were we had to go to buy our fob watches, scissors and other bits and bobs that we had to have when we started our nurse training...............we were sent a list of requirements.....even down to the little white pins that held our hats together....

Still have my scissors.....
Barbie

Lizzie that's a nice bit of info that I didn't know. It should be recorded so future generations know that. It's those little things that are forgotten but which were a part of our heritage.
