David Moyes: I'll help pick next Everton FC manager

DAVID MOYES hopes he can make history repeat itself at Goodison Park this summer.

Eleven years ago sacked Everton boss Walter Smith rubber-stamped the identity of his successor when he recommended an ambitious young Preston boss to replace him.

Now David Moyes, who will leave the Blues after the final match of the season, says he will help chairman Bill Kenwright in his hunt for a new man to build on the platform he has constructed at Goodison.

“I’ve spoken with the chairman and the chairman’s asked me (about who should succeed me) and I’ll help Everton as much as I possibly can,” said Moyes at yesterday’s Finch Farm press conference.

“If he asks for my advice, which he has done, I’ll help.

“Walter Smith was very good to me. He recommended me for the job and if there’s anything I can do to help Everton and Bill Kenwright towards what happens next I’ll be more than happy to do so.

“I think it’s a great football club and whoever comes in is coming to a really good environment.

“It’s got a brilliant training ground, it’s got a great set of players with a terrific attitude – every one of them – and behind the scenes it’s a well run club.

“We don’t get ourselves in too much trouble, we continue to try and compete so I think whoever gets it will have a great opportunity.”

Moyes was asked about the possibility of the current bookies’ favourite, Neil Lennon, replacing him – but he said: “It’s not for me to put any names forward, but I’ll help Bill. If he asks me for any advice I’ll speak to him.

“I’m sure there will be lots of people interested in this job and no wonder, because it’s a great place to work.

“Whoever takes over will be taking over a fanatstic group of lads, they really will be.”

In a half-hour conference in which Moyes spoke passionately and emotionally about his time with the Toffees, the Blues boss explained that he would particularly miss the unique Goodison Park matchday atmosphere.

He explained: “I really enjoy the people I work with – and I enjoy Goodison.

“There’s a strange thing about coming to Goodison.

“It’s an old fashioned old lady of a football stadium which can be really raucous on its day. But I’ll miss a lot of things. I can’t put it down to one thing.

“Just being connected to Everton Football Club has been such a big part of my life and my career.”

But even after saying all that he is still leaving , and for Manchester United Too !!!!!!!!

Chelsea fans have been annoyinmg me the way they have been treatring Raffa. ...Last night he just steered them to the Europa Cup success and yet on the news this morning they are showing footage of the ungrateful Cockneys saying he had nothing to do with the Cup uccess and that it was entirely down to the Chelsea Players alone.
You're better off outa there Raffa, leave the ungrateful shower to themselves, you will lways be welcome on Merseyside , as you and your family know.

It really is sickening the way he has been treated

But perhaps a lesson has been learned.  Be very careful what you say about other managers and their fans cos you never know where you might end up!  Who would have thought that Rafa would manage Chelsea!

It is as you say ' Sickening 'Alice ,but Raffa Speaks his mind ,he is open , and you know where you stand with him, something that is sadly missing in most walks of life these days. He has an affinity with Scousers in that respect and I reckon thats why he has his family home close by on the Wirral
