My dad was in the Merchant Navy, almost died, suffered with shell shock all his life. Yet, he is never worthy of recognition.  Sad
at least I got him on hereI wont ever forget you Gwynne Jones, you were always my hero. ♥

A very  emotional, but fitting tribute to a Brave Father and  Mother, I can tell you are rightfully , so very proud and
honoured to be their daughter Barbie.

The Echo

Thanks for the 'heads up' on that event Barbie, I'm ashamed to say I wasn't aware of it. I   am sure it will be a packed sailors Church Tomorrow.
These brave Men ,and women , should never ever be allowed to be forgotten.

I think I may be off back down to the waterfront again tomorrow.

I was at the artist Anthony Brown's exhibition today. He has a canvas up for anyone who atends, you can write a message on it for a service person. The canvas will acompany the exhibition where ever it goes. Needless to say, although it did say soldiers, I added my dad's name because he deserved to be added. My dad was a farmer's son, he didn't have to go to war as he was needed to farm the land. Dad chose to go, like all the rest of the brave people.
The exhibition was worth seeing, especially if you are a Beatle's fan.

I didn't get to the Service on Sunday, I was a bit selfish and went on a walk instead . I was pleased to read in the Echo that there was a magnificent turn out so I am very pleased at that

Barbie ,were about in town was the exhibition please ?
Barbie

Yes, was that where the Mercedi Benz place was?
brainbox

Yes Barbie thats the spot.....it used to be known as Mann Island area.
Barbie

It was a good exhibition, I saw the artist himself but didn't speak.
brainbox

I was down there Today. It appears the set of new buildings still retain the original description of Mann Island, and the one with the open Exhibition Plaza is called the Equator Building, There was an Artist studio in the Plaza called 'The Open Eye Gallery'

I was on one of the Heritage tours and the guide was doing her best to convince everyone present that the Big Black Glass buildings were Architecturally sympathetic with its surrounding Iconic Waterfront buildings....everyone was screwing their faces up as she was waffling on, and words were muttered such as Monstrosity and Disgrace etc. The guide finally diplomatically moved off the subject ......She knew she was on to a hiding if she carried on spouting that rubbish.    he ! he !
Barbie

Not the nicest looking building in Liverpool!  Confused

Too Right .

Barbie I found out that Mann Island was actually called after a Person called Mann, It sounds perfectly normal but I never looked at the name originating like that

Was it Tom Mann?
brainbox

No. barbie , not Tom Mann, it was way before his time .It was a fella called Mann who apparently owned a large proportion of the land around that particular spot and as was normal in times gone by the place assumed  his name  ..i.e. Mann Island. Thats all i can remember but I have a bit more info written down  I will have to dig it out and have a read.
Barbie

I'll have a moochy too.  Smile
