Forums Versus Facebook.

Over the years, forums have decreased as people stopped logging in to them in favour of Facebook.
I have to say I myself drifted over there myself.
However, as time has gone on, I actually hate Facebook and often ask myself why the hell I bother with it at all. Simple answer to it is that I have made some rather nice 'friends' from other countries and they interest me with their different way of life and where they live is so different to here; it's nice being able to tell them about liverpool.
However, Facebook seems to have drifted away from 'normal' conversations of every day life albeit about your job, your city or family visiting etc etc etc. Now it is full of 'selfies' who proceed to show me girls/women with duck faces (pouting), or how thin they've gotten, the length of their new false eyelashes and the competition and bitching which then proceed those photos leaves me cold not to mention bored. The fights that break out albeit in text is astonishing and not what i go on Facebook for.
Some people use Facebook to be down right nasty, I think the modern term for them is keyboard warriors. Once again, not what i want to read.
There are the people who play mind games by posting very cryptic posts and you are left wondering who the hell they are getting at, makes you feel uncomfortable. This gets backed up by suddenly realising they have you on page block.......

The amount of total drivel posted by many leaves me with a feeling of wanting to go and watch paint dry somewhere. I mean, I do not want to see a photo of your dinner, why the hell would I? I don't need to see a photo of the ingrown toenail, or the cat sick on your new very expensive carpet or even the fluff from your navel.

So what I am trying to get at is this, forums are way far better than facebook and I hope that lots and lots of other people get like me and stop posting as much on that site and go back to the forums were, although some threads are there to be 'silly' on, you can get a decent conversation about the things in life that are more important and more intelligent.
This forum was great once, loads of wonderful old and new photographs  of this wonderful city. I hope that people start to post again because I miss it.

I learned something new about Liverpool over the past couple of days because my brother loaned me a book and it was one of the best books I've read in ages. I hope to share some of it on here...........if anybody is interested of course.

Facebook isn't all bad but it is used for all the wrong reasons in my humble opinion.
Mind you, it does come in handy, I mean, if it didn't exist, I'd have to phone 134 people every morning to tell them what I'm having for brekki, what time I'm getting into the shower, what time I'm leaving for work and what time I'll be back. It's sooooooooooo exhausting!!!!!!!  Laughing  Laughing  Wink

Take my advice and stay off it. There is no privacy. I mean, I come on here and nobody knows I'm here, by that I mean, any family or friends who seem to spend all their time following me around that site, wanting to know my every move. I feel stalked. I so want this forum to pick up again.
Alice

I also prefer Forums to Facebook although it is good for genealogy websites like Gravestone Photographic Resourse.

I also hope that this forum picks up although people join but don't say anything!  Even if posters just make a couple of posts a day it keeps it going.  At least there has never been swearing or nastiness that I have seen on other forums.

I think this forum is a good portrayal of what Liverpool stands for!

Still each to their own may be they join then donít like whatís on offer.....but surely that cannot be every one who has joined recently

I know face book has some good points and I know of people who have tracked down long lost family/friends...but like you Barbie I donít like the invasion of privacy it can bring ......but then I dont really know enough about it.....

How to cause a fight on facebook....

1) Express your opinion, sit back and wait for the fireworks off people who don't like your opinion.
2) Mention football, say which team you support and sit back and wait for the fireworks from people who support other teams.
3) Mention religion and sit back and wait for the fireworks off people who have a different faith and don't like yours.
4) Just post anything about anything and sit back and wait for the fireworks off people who just like letting off a load of histrionics just because they can/want to.

The amount of 'sick' people who post day after day with illnesses. There is one who has a cold about every two months with flu in between, she is sick at least once a week, gets headaches, pains, she thinks she has this, has that and the other....on and on.....
Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes Just so boring.

The stories by another person, whom I have now deleted, were amazing. Her cat was kidnapped and injected with all sorts, (no, it wasn't) she had immigrants building a shed up against her gable wall to live in, (no, she didn't) is a  biker, errrrr no she isn't, ....the fantasies just go on and on.... Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes I know someone else who knows her more than me you see.....

I suppose really it is sad, maybe just the only way some people can gain attention. But it isn't real, it's a make believe world on the internet....

Now, tomorrow I'm off to to have high tea with the Queen, will post pics...(my camera will of course break, or battery run out, I could lose it or of course, no pics were allowed......  Wink  ) When really of course, I'm off to take Bertha the elephant for a walk around the hospital roof......

Alice, some people are on facebook 24/7, even posting from their holidays abroad? Why? Well, I've stopped going on there as much now and what's funny is, i get people posting on †my wall...."Where are you?" "Are you ok?" I get inboxed messages asking is everything all right, just because I spent one whole day away from the land of make believe.
I'd seriously shut my profile down but there are some people I like chatting to and I like some of the Liverpool groups I am in. Mind you, they are getting repetitive, same photos over and over.
I go out for long walks in the fresh air and sunshine and when i get back, I see others who have just been sat in front of facebook the whole day. It has become their life.
I wont even mention the candy crush fanatics.... Rolling Eyes

Tonight i have people sharing that they are having a PIP tomorrow....surely that is private? Someone talking about the cat pooping, how bad the smell is, someone else is talking about killing the chef in work, oh wait, that is me...Ok, there are posts from people who are competing about who works the longest hours (therefore I'm more tired than you are) and another about how it's not far off Christmas.....

I jest you not..... Confused
Lizzie

Pardon my ignorance but what is a PIP Embarassed  Embarassed  Laughing

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit for people aged 16 to 64 with a disability or long-term health condition. It's being introduced in stages from 8 April 2013. Eventually, it will replace Disability Living Allowance (DLA).........so many people taken off it, people that need it.  Sad
Lizzie

Ah ha thank you......
