When the first snowflakes
begin to come down,
And the wind whistles sharp and,
the branches turn brown,
I won't mind the cold,
though it numbs my fingers,
For it brings the time nearer,
when Santa Claus comes!

Merry Christmas to you all

A weird, well, more sad really, Christmas tale to tell....

I moved into my house in September 2002. Every Christmas since I have received a Christmas card address her but to a David and a Linda. A card would arrive every single year without fail from a Val. As the years went by, the messages got more like, "Hi, happy Christmas, we really might just get together one year eh?"
I couldn't do anything about it as there was no return address. So, 12 cards on, this year one didn't arrive. I thought, at last, they've found each other!
Today though, I received a sympathy card from Val. In it she has written to David, saying how sorry she is to learn that Linda has died. Val says about how she now lives in New Zealand, and that she will be over here in April to see him. At last though for me, I now have a return address, albeit in NZ. I wrote a polite and sympathetic note to Val and posted the card back to her, explaining how long I have lived here etc.
After dropping it in the post box I was talking to a  neighbour, not one I see often. I retold this story and what did he say? "Oh yes, Linda, the Mrs was at her funeral!!!!" Seems they were friends for bloody years! Aarrgghh....all them years and all them cards, I could have let Val know a long time ago of Linda and David's new addy. Now, it is too late. It is a sign of the times, neighbours keeping themselves to themselves.  Sad

R.I.P. Linda, your cards used to stand along side mine in the hope that one day, Val would turn up to reclaim them!  Confused

That is a sad tale,Barbie, though there was little you could have done, before you spoke with your neighbour!
This made me think of the little snowman who usually turns up at our front door,at some point over the xmas! He's been coming for 10 years or more, and always carries a short poem about his "journey"here! He stays for a week or so,then we put him outside, with a return poem....and he disappears soon after!
It's obviously one of our neighbours, though we can't be definite which one,but anyway, this year, there's been no show,(so far!)and we have both been surprised at how disappointed we've been, and wondered if anyone had been ill,or even passed on!! We may never find out!?
Barbie

Maybe it was my Linda!  Confused
