ITEMS FOUND IN WILLIAMSONS TUNNELS

copied from friends of williamsons tunnels web site

19 Volunteers came today and filled skip no 26. It was quite exciting as we were excavating a new chamber never before dug. We named it the Lomax Chamber as there was a Chemist close by that reputedly had tunnels. As you can see from this picture we had a lot of finds on display in this chamber, -which had to be moved before starting the excavations.

I've been down these tunnels a few times , and know a couple of the volunteer tunnelers its an amazing experience making your way through the Labyrinths
The Volunteers of The Friends of Williams Tunnels at Paddington give their time free of charge and their ultimate aim is to have the section of Tunnels that they are working on to be permanently open to the public as an amazing tourist venue.
The tunnels can be visited during Heritage week , so if you are ok with tight confined spaces and steps then get yourself down there .its ok  you can actually walk in these tunnels, you dont need to navigate them on your belly.  lol. all those finds shown in the pic by Scousemouse are on permanent display within the tunnels

Alice , i think they are hoping for the day when they may find some Herculaneum pottery as its very valuable indeed and would help immensely in their constant struggle to pay for the never ending skips they have to pay for as they sieve and dispose of the rubble they remove by hand from these tunnels every Sunday

...Is why I didn't go down. I'm unsure I could handle it and don't want to be faffing about having panic attacks.... Laughing

Its all very safe and well lit barbie, the 'Elf & safety' brigade have been in and  given it ticks in all the necessary boxes, and even the Fire Brigade have carried out procedures so as they know the lay out in the very highly unlikely event of an occurrence of an emergency situation .
Its a hidden Gem.

Ta Beeb, will read them up later tonight.
I'm a bit panicky in confined spaces, near pooped it in the  crypt in Knotty ash, but calmed myself. I couldn't be alone in it, not cos of the dead, just the sheer blackness and smallness......shudder!  Razz
Alice

I am like you Barbie, I don't like confined spaces so I couldn't handle it.  I don't even like being in the back of a car with only two doors.
Barbie

Yes, I'm a bit like that in 2 door cars too....  Confused
