Liverpool Historic ABC Cinema Plans

It's sad to say that things are going to be pulled down, just like the Curzon in Old Swan over the last few weeks. However, as much as I loved that old Curzon being there, now as it is gone I can see that actually, Old Swan is in need of a face lift. I think the new building will improve the look of the area, although,. had the building been looked after in the first place it could have been saved and given a new lease of life.

Same goes for Lime Street. That part of the street has looked so tatty for many years that now the new proposals seem more important than actually keeping hold of the Futurist. I would have prefered The Futurist to have looked after and therefore given a new lease of life but unfortunately, it too has been left to rot and now there is no choice but to let it go.

It will look so much better when visitors come from the train station and see something more pleasing on the eye than a load of old tat.

I will always prefer the old style buildings, new ones in my opinion never come anywhere near the old facades, the designs, sculptors etc. But it is time to tidy up Lime Street now!

I agree Barbie..its ages since I was in Lime Street but last time I was I remember it looking a bit worse for wear...but in saying that  I hate to think of the old buildings going..soon there will be nothing left of the Liverpool I knew and loved Crying or Very sad

There is two sides to the coin, the love of the old but the need for new.....it's difficult. Lime Street makes Liverpool look tatty to visitors coming out of the station, it is desperate. The problem is the old buildings on Lime Street have been left to rot, so far gone they cannot be saved. Sadly. The council should have made the people who own the buildings step up and see to them. Too late now though, the private company who owned the Futurist has now gone  into liquidation.  Rolling Eyes Damn them!

Lets start a 'KEEP LIVERPOOL THE WAY IT WAS' campaign Laughing

But I do agree with you some of the old buildings have gone past the point of no return...

Laughing  Laughing Right down the shoeless kids in the Steble fountain.... I jest here of course but even that comment from me makes me see the need for moving on at times....it's just so sad when the old disappear though.

I guess if I had my way, we'd all still be in victorian clothes, spending a florin and live in tumbling down houses....all because i love the 'romantic idea of the good old days!'  Razz
