Liverpool holidaymakers may face disruption on M56Merseyside holidaymakers could face disruption to their journeys next weekend as a stretch of motorway near Manchester Airport is closed.
The M56 will be closed between Junction 6 at Hale and Junction 5 at the airport for all of the last weekend in February, as work on a new 1,500 tonne bridge takes place.
Airport bosses are advising travellers to allow another hour for their journey.
Access to Manchester Airport will remain open but other drivers are being urged to avoid the area and stick to diversions.
Wayne Poole, Manchester Airport Group’s director of passenger services, added: “It’s inevitable with the volume of traffic we’ve got heading towards airport that there will be some congestion.
“We would encourage passengers to allow another hour prior to their flight, but it is a quieter time of the year for us. If you don’t need to access the airport directly, please use the diversions.”
