The birthstone for November is the topaz.  The flower is the chrysanthemum
MOJO that a hint,Alice??  Smile

November, Bonfire night and Remembrance Sunday.

Always wear your poppy with pride and please, wear it the right way round. Some people don't realise that you should be wearing the green leaf pointed at 11 o'clock.
Does anybody on the forum attend the parades?

Bonfire night! I wish they'd ban it! Well, maybe just ban the sale of fireworks and keep to public displays. It amazes me though how a lot of today's younger generation don't even know the origin of the 5th of November, so why we bother with any of it at all I don't know!
So many kids and adults get burned every year.
I have to say though as a kid, I loved it. I did understand why it was 'celebrated' and the bommy at the top of our road on the oller was awesome. People put potatoes on it and there would be others with chestnuts having heated them in their houses. I never had fireworks, only sparklers, mum never bought them as they cost too much for us. Nobody minded that you were looking in on theirs though.

Our oller was once a shop, a bakery of sorts I was told.

Now Alice, is it your birthday this month?

Don't remember how it actually started, but it's become a habit now! I go  St.George's hall, regardless of the weather, and I've noticed,as the years have gone by,that gradually, all the attendee's from WW1. have now passed on,and the services from WW2. are also now diminishing! Time marches on!!
Has anyone ever noticed that the memorial there,is also dedicated to the civilian casualties,of the wars, apparently unusual?

Always try to get to the Cenotaph on Remembrance day ..I love being there and seeing it all in real time...the atmosphere is so poignant.....

Good for you two turning up. I might make it to St Georges myself this year.

I must admit they are my favourite flowers with roses!

Very nice Barbie!

November isn't just about fireworks and remembrance.

Symbols of November
Birthstone: Topaz and citrine
Flower: Chrysanthemum

In the original Roman calendar, November was the ninth month of the year. It got its name from the Latin word "novem" which means nine. However, it became the eleventh month when the Romans added in January and February to the start of the year.

Throughout much of history, November has often been thought of as a somber month because it signaled the start of winter. People would spend the month storing up their harvest and preparing their food and homes in order to survive the winter.

A home is burgled every two minutes in November making the month the worst of the year for break-ins, a new report shows today.

And the hour between midnight and 1am is the time when most burglars strike at domestic properties in the UK, according to the latest research.

Police data obtained by a freedom of information request reveals that one in ten domestic burglaries take place in November and that a break-in takes place every two minutes during this month.
