I read that Dan Purvis,of the GB gymnasts team, who won our first medal for 100 years, lives 2 streets away from the house in Crosby, were the one of the previous bronze winners of the same competition,in 1912,Herbert Drury, lived! His son Denver, now 81,now lives in Waterloo, couldn't believe the coincidence!

That is truly amazing MOJO.

well ! we are really getting into it now aren't we  medals left .right, and centre today.. I have so much admiration for these competitors, Just to gain a place in the competition is a superb achievement, to win a medal is out of this world.
Alice

3 Gold and 3 Silver medals today for Team GB

Well done to you all.  Very Happy
MOJO

We are doing well, and have several times, nearly done better! There were a couple of events, such as the men's basketball, were we lost by 1 point to Spain (rated 2nd in Europe),and the 2 G.B. women cyclists, who were disqualified in the team sprint, because their wheels overlapped at the changeover,by about 18 inches!! They were favourites for a silver,at least!
Oh well, onward, and upward! Arrow  Smile
Valencia

Congratulations to Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins for winning gold in the women's double sculls.  Very Happy
Alice

We are 4th in the Medal Table

With 8 Gold, 6 Silver and 8 Bronze
MOJO

Did you know that G.B. is the only country to have won,at least 1 gold medal,in every summer olympics since they began in 1896! Smile  Looking back at our medal tally, over the years,we're doing much better now, than we ever did,Bejing being the the most succesful since 1908,when we won 47 medals! Up to now,we've got 22,and still a week to go!

Thanks for the information MOJO, very interesting!
Alice

Jessica Ennis wins Olympic heptathlon gold for Great Britain and Mo Farah became the first Briton to win Olympic 10,000m gold with a tremendous victory in the Olympic Stadium.  Watching them win was so fantastic!

Well done to all those who won medals today!

We are now 3rd in the Medal Table with:

14 Gold    7 Silver     8 Bronze
MOJO

It's now 16 gold,11 silver, and 10 bronze, and we're still in 3rd place in the rankings! Very Happy   Again, there were also some very near misses for gold, just hope we can keep this up!
John Rex

its really hotting up now Mojo
this time last week we had 2 medals
right now its changing by the hour
fantastic. congratulations to them all

J.R.
MOJO

Yes John,it really is! 18 gold,11 silver, and 11 bronze, and time enough to beat our Bejing total of 47,though I think it would be impossible to beat our record of 148 medals,in 1908! Shocked (only 22 countries in that one though!)
MOJO

22 golds,13 silver, and 13 bronze = 48 so we've passed our Bejing total, and with 3 more golds!! More to come! Very Happy
Jan

I am really enjoying the Olympics ,,,so so so proud of team GB ,,,god we are doing so well.. so happy Very Happy  Very Happy

Barbie

I think the fact that they are in their own country has helped spur them on. Just the very proud feeling they must have at how well we have handled the whole thing. Despite what Mitt whatshisface said...  Twisted Evil Maybe also, as they are in their own climate that has helped too.
Greenbank

You are right Barbie the climate has certainly helped.
MOJO

....24 gold,13 silver, and 14 bronze =51 medals, for G.B. so far, and Nicola Adams, from Leeds, the world's first female olympic boxing champion! Very Happy
Alice

Team GB are doing so well.  Very Happy
MOJO

...now Jade Jones has won the taekwondo gold! Very Happy
Jan

Must admit,I'd normally not watch the horsy stuff, but those were beautiful examples, and so clever!?
John Rex

Nearly at a close now so the news channels
will have to go back to informing us what
is actually going on in the rest of the world

J.R.
MOJO

....I think I'd rather not know! Smile We've now got 63 medals, including 28 Golds, with a few more possible!(To think we left Atlanta with 1!?!  The weathers been good, and the whole thing seems to have gone very well, just looking forward to the closing ceremony, now, which will showcase the Brit' musical contribution to the world! Smile
MOJO

Well,it's all over now,and pretty much a great success, for all involved, especially team G.B.! I  thought the closing ceremony was great, though of course, there were lots of things I would have preferred to be included, and again,it was strange, quirky, and confusing at times, but everyone there looked like they were enjoying themselves, and the athletes appreciating the opportunity to let their hair down!!!  Very Happy I thought getting Eric Idle to sing "Always look on the Bright Side of Life" was magic,as everyone seemed to know the words, and sang along!
Jan

I really enjoyed the closing Ceremony,,, had all the family round ,,, had a great evening,,,Hope you all did too,,,,,,,

Jan x Very Happy
MOJO

I thought it was good, though I mistakenly thought it was over, when the Brazilian bit came on!
It's been nice being distracted, from the usual misery that goes on in the world, which of course, carry's on unabated!
Jan

Did you see this

Good one to end on

Jan x Very Happy
MOJO

Excellent Jan!  Smile
Alice

I also enjoyed the closing ceremony although I didn't watch it right to the end so missed The Who.
