Old school pics......

Seafield convent............

I think this is the North Wing....it had so many wings its hard to remember ....but this is where my thirst for knowledge started..Oh and Cherie  Blair went there   too..but waaaaay before me

So different now..not even a convent any more

Any one else got any to share
brainbox

I've just had a read up on the Former Convent Lizzie, what a very fascinating history that building does have.

Lots of photos here .

Indeed it was a tremendous building and as you say such a long history.....not sure what its like now........have driven past it but its all changed...

Loving the pics......now they do look like I remember it.... Laughing  Laughing

Name does not  ring a bell......but then I cant remember my own name half the time..... Laughing  Laughing

Interesting that the convent merged  with St Bedes I did not know that .....they used to call us snobs cos we were at Grammar  School and they were Secondary Modern as it was..........and they used to try and pinch our hats............. Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad
MOJO

Ha,ha, along with some of the lad's from Merchant Taylor's,some of who, still wore straw boaters,in the summer!
Lizzie

**cough cough***   we had to wear straw boaters in the summer as well....... Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes

OK who spread that malicious rumour..... Wink  Wink  Laughing
MOJO

Was that your first school,Liz,or did you attend any of the local primary schools?
Lizzie

I started at St Peter & Pauls Primary School.....which is also on Liverpool Road but the end near Coronation Road which is the road we lived in............
MOJO

So...do you remember Miss Moylan, and Mr Kellet, the headmaster, when I was there.....and the "Newsmag" on Coronation rd??
Lizzie

OMG do I remember Miss Moylan...wasn’t there two of them ..sisters Question  Question

And Mr Kellet....lordy be..when were you there.....did we sit next to each other..... Laughing  Laughing

Was the Newsmag the one near First Avenue.....or was it maybe Third Avenue or some Avenue Rolling Eyes

Gosh this is so exiting some one went to my school..... Laughing  Laughing

I also remember a lovely teacher who had a strange mouth.....but she was so kind to me.....my mom died while I was at that school and she took me out when my aunt came to tell me and to take me home....cant for the life of me remember her name I was 10 1/2  at the time and it was 1968
MOJO

Probably there, around the same time,as I went on to St.Bede's,in '68,and not, St. Mary's as planned!
I started in that building at the back,in a Mr. Kelly's class, but moved up(?) to Miss Moylan's, where I was plonked next to Steven Goodwin! Our quest was to make her laugh at our combined essay's,which we did,on several occasions!(something to do with stinkbombs,I recall! Smile ) ...and yes,she did have a sister
I'm struggling to think of some names, and a couple that have popped up are, Susan Lysaght,(who I remember mainly, for knocking her front teeth out) and Steven Kerrigan, who became a gay chef! John Crowley, who's dad was a headmaster, but he couldn't tell the time, and Martin Mott, who I found out had sadly died,a couple of years ago! You might remember his mum,who taught hundreds of kids to swim,at the old Crosby baths?
I'll try and come up with a few more, later! (I've got a pic' of some teachers....somewhere???)
Lizzie

Oh what a small world.............wish I could remember more of it.....but it subsequently became a sad time for me so maybe I have mentally blocked it out.....would love to see any pic you have

So did you live in Crosby then.....my brother went to St Bedes  but he is four years older
MOJO

I've spent ages looking for that pic'....but no luck yet!
I went to a St.Bede's re-union do,a few years back, and even though I didn't recognise many of former pupils,as it was a couple of years "up" as it were,it was great to see the teachers again, including the headmaster Mr.Breen, and his missus, who have both now passed on!
Lizzie

I remember my brother talking about Mr Breen and his wife.....he also used to talk about a maths teacher with a metal plate in his head.....

Did you live in Crosby at that time.....

If so  do you remember the Crosby Youth Club in Coronation Road..I see its still going .... Laughing

Ha,ha, that was "pop" Healey, who,I think I was told a little about, at that re-union,that he was a pilot in WW2,but I couldn't be sure!
As for the youth club,I do remember going there for a while,as well as the army cadets opposite, while watching what was going on at the "Bosun's Cabin" cafe, which we all thought was were the local "Trendies" hung out, inquisitive  buggers that we were!

No wonder I couldn't find this,it was on Friends Re-united!!

So,Miss Moylan,Mrs Small,???,and Mr Lynch, it says on the pic,but I don't really remember them, except for Miss Moylan, though that young guy does seem familiar!
Lizzie

OMG Miss Moylan is just like I remember her....its like I only saw her yesterday Laughing

And I so remember the  Bosuns Cabin.......those shops are still there  but the lovely 'Ladies shop' were I bought a pair of white crimpolene flares has gone  Laughing  Laughing

There  is a restaurant now called The Fat Italian and a butty shop and a few others.....
Lizzie

So Mojo do you remember Nazareth House.....me old nan was a resident there for a while before she died

and Park House..... ..opposite the junction with  ************ ???????the road with Waterloo Station on it

Any ways I was born there..Park House that is not the station Laughing  Laughing
MOJO

Well,as you may remember,Nazareth house was next to St.Bede's,and I vaguely recall several kids that were living there,at the time. It's now on the point of closing down,as it's become unsustainable as a care home!                                                                                    Park house is still going(I think?) it's opposite South rd,and still run by nun's! q10  How long is it since you left?
Lizzie

I left Liverpool in 1982

I see Park House is now a guest house..twas a private nursing home back in the day

Nazareth House was  magnificent place............shame to see it go......is it going to be pulled down do you know

South Road that’s the one..the pub on the corner is still there I see.....

Do you remember Carnegie Library.......I went in for a visit last time I was home..it was like stepping back in time.... Laughing  Laughing
MOJO

The Carnegie library was/is under threat of closure,so there was a meeting in the Marine social club, where some sort of local plan to save it,was agreed! I haven't heard anything lately,so I don't know the present situation, but it would be a shame if it went! (did you notice that Alexandra hall had gone? Replaced by apartments, now!)

Sorry to butt in on your convo, but, I know Nazerath House. I help to raise money for the place about 4 years ago. It was a bikers thing.

This place?
MOJO

Looks like it,it's on Liverpool rd,Crosby!
Barbie

Even the scooter boys turned up that day.
I helped raise money for the kids in there. I knew someone who used to go there to give his mum some respite.
Lizzie

Yeah MOJO I saw Alexander Hall had gone..used to go to teenage disco's there..... Laughing

Well done on the fund raising Barbie.....
