I have emailed Gary Millar....he is the councillor for Old Swan, not to mention the best  Lord Mayor we have had......
Barbie

Just this minute received a reply from Gazza.....

Here is part of the email....

Thanks for your email. I know -  Iím also not happy about the Curzon but as itís not listed it isnít protected at all.  Unfortunately there is nothing the Council can do to stop a legal planning application from being passed and its completely out of the hands of the Councillors, Council or local residents. But feel free to carry on ranting.

Best Wishes, Gary

So...that's that then!  Sad

Shame to see these fine old buildings going....;like we need more shops.....

Would be nice to see the buildings bought and  maybe turned into shops if they have to have more....but keeping the  front facade as it is.........but I guess that is just a pipe dream Confused

Thanks for sharing the Email response Barbie...
Gary isnt eactly correct in saying its completely out of the hands of local residents though is he.
If a petition was got up by local Residents, and local heritage lovers saying they would boycot the New Store when built then I bet that would alter the Decision to knock it down currently propsed by Home Bargains.............Probably wont happen that Petition ,but People Power is stronger than any Legal Powers ever in force.

Does anybody actually know about it? I don't see the proposals flaunted all over the show! As for boycotting HB's.....pffffffffttttttttt, who will do that? I would but people love that shop for it's bargains. More people wont care about the building than those who do.
So, I know it is bye bye.
But at least I know I tried.  Sad

The plans , for the demolition and rebuid were passed today , whats more,It is reported that not one City Councillor, as much as voiced an objection , despite written objections put forward by amongst others, The Cinema Theatre Association, ,, Save Britains Heritage, and The 20th Century Society.
Tony Conception , Planning Committee Member and Councillor for the nearby Yew tree ward said : ' I think this is a very good Scheme ' !!

Bye Bye to a lovely Art Deco Building, that has been under Maintained and left to deteriorate....So much for us having held The Title European Capital of Culture
Barbie

Well shame on every single one of them!!!!!!!!!!! I'm telling Gazza how disgusted I am too.

It says here the upper floors are little changed from its days as a cinema......that fact alone should had been enough to have prevented its demolition........

Curzon Cinema, Old Swan

Built in 1936, designed by Earnest Shennan, the Curzon was one the few cinemas where 3D films could be seen. The short-lived novelty of 3D would soon be replaced by Cinema Scope and Magnetic Stereophonic sounds pioneered by Twentieth Century Fox. The grand opening of the Curzon was at 2.30 pm on the 10th October 1936. The ceremony was performed by Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor R.J.Hall. The auditorium has 1750 seats, upholstered in amber and a fully carpeted floor that sloped to a crossover gangway from the main stage. The orchestra pit featured the handsome console of the computer organ that incorporated all the modern advances including the electronics unit. The organ chamber was behind the screen and the large projection room housed two Kalee projectors, Western Electronic wide range sound system, spotlight lanterns and electrical equipment. The prices were 6d, 9d, 1s with reduced rates in the afternoon. The Curzon closed on the 20th August 1960. Following its closure, the building was reconstructed into a row of shops. A similar use of the building continues with the upper parts of the building relatively unchanged from its days as a cinema.

Councillors voted unanimously in favour of the plans

They can all go get lost from now on. And because it is the forum, I put it politely.....but just wait....
