Park Sunlight River Park opens todayA new public park has been opened in Wirral by Alison McGovern.
The Wirral South MP cut the ribbon to declare the gates to Port Sunlight River Park officially open.
Hundreds of people attended the ceremony, with dog walkers and photographers among the many welcoming access to the new site.
Port Sunlight River Park has been a significant long term project overseen by the Land Trust.
Used for landfill from 1991 to 2006, the site is owned by waste management firm Biffa, who have granted a long lease to the organisation for the project.
Since winning funding to transform the old tip, 12,000 trees have been planted and the park is now a budding home for local wildlife.
Having supported the scheme throughout its development, Mrs McGovern was delighted to see families enjoying the 28 hectare site for the first time on Tuesday.
