Picture Houses.

Here are some shots of the inside of the old ABC cinema, Lime Street. Apparently it is still in excellent condition so I hope this doesn't get razed tot he ground as the Odeon did.
So many memories flooded back scrolling through these photos, via the Liverpool Echo.

Say one thing about the destroyers of the heritage of this great city - they don't mess about.
Just a few weeks ago the Liverpool Nobody Knows Tour took in the old Paramount Pictures building on Fraser Street. This beautiful building dated from 1927. The site was originally meant to be a cinema but it became a film distribution office. Many people did assume that the old building had been a cinema - this was an easy mistake to make.
Such was the popularity of cinema in Liverpool at one time that most of the major film companies had offices here. In the 1930s and 1940s there were over one hundred cinemas in the city.
Films were sent to the Fraser Street offices for editing and later distribution. The lower windows were covered with large pictures of the great film stars of the era. Sometimes pictures of the stars would be handed out to film fans at the door.
I had a special affinity with this building as my mum had worked there as a 'cutter.'
On the tour today we headed down Fraser Street to look at the building and its gone......demolished.....bulldozed.....not a trace of it now exists. Its been demolished to make way for yet more student accommodation I've just been told.
Please share and make people aware of what is happening in Liverpool.

Sadly gone...........

I think it ended it's days as a 1 a pint venue, a few years back! Sad that it's gone!
Barbie

Confused So sad. I suppose to be fair, I didn't think about the place from day to another, but now as it has gone I realise we have lost a bit of a gem!
