4 Weeks to Go as Lord Mayor of the Best City in the World!
As you may know my time as Lord Mayor of this great city ends on 11th June and I must say that time has certainly flown by!
For your interest I am constantly updating my Facebook Photo Diary and have therefore created a “Quick Index” at this link - http://on.fb.me/1fi8lo6
I have Chaired 6 Council Meeting’s at Liverpool Town Hall and used the last occasion in April to publically thank our amazing Town Hall staff; my colleagues and everyone who has helped make my job look easy. In particular, I was able to thank my Consort Steve Macfarlane for all his support. Without his help and that of my fundraising committee we would not have been able to help raise in excess of £250,000 for local charities.
You can still donate to my Charity at JustTextGiving by sending a text to 70070 with the words "LMAY13 then a space then £X" (where X is any figure between £1 & £10) or online click here to make a donation online (via the web) – thanks!
At 5 pm on June 11th my “Chain of Office” will be removed and passed onto the next Lord Mayor and by then I will have done almost: -
5 Freedom of the City honours
90 award ceremonies
200 business events
75 school events
Met over 60 major overseas delegations
Released 3 music CDs
Shook 40,000 hands
Given over 1000 speeches
Saved 2 war memorials
Jet-skied, abseiled, climbed walls, fought fires
…and met thousands of Liverpool’s unsung exceptional heroes
But, I’ve still got a few weeks to go and I know it will be a busy, fantastic and emotional, thought provoking and stunning countdown. I’m often asked what it’s like being Lord Mayor – I say “imagine the best job in the world and then multiply it by a 100 – well that’s what this job is like”!
As you know Liverpool is a fantastic city and the people are truly amazing! From ordinary citizens, organisations and our diverse communities, all are a credit to what is the “best city in the world”. It has truly been a privilege serving and promoting the City of Liverpool and I know I will miss being its Lord Mayor and Ambassador.
Should you wish to contact me after 11th June my personal postal address is:
[i]EDIT: Although he advetises his address and phone numbers, I've deleted them from here.....
I personally like this guy, even before he defected to Labour from the Lib Dems. He helped me with a few things and strives to help anybody that he can. He isn't even a scouser but loves this city with all his heart. (Pity he can't stop the demise of a few buildings, but, the least said about that the better perhaps)
Thanks Gary for a great year, you are going to take some beating. Good luck for the future and carry on carrying on.......
That fella deserves the job full time, Full Stop !
