The Jewel on the Hill.

http://jewelonthehill.co.uk/

This library saw plenty of me as a child. An avid reader since the day I learned, books were my escape. Mum also was an avid reader and me and her spent a lot of time in the place.
The last time I was in there, I was 12. That was a long time ago. That day will stay in my mind for ever cos while I was in there, me and my mate took a fit of the giggles and I left a puddle on the floor..... Embarassed  Embarassed

Anyway, I loved this building more than any other library I have been in. To think of it all vandalised and empty is quite sad. I am glad that it is at least being restored.

Nice recollections Barbie,. I remember a year or so back one of the organisers from Hope Street Ltd attended The, then small, Everton & District Histoty Group meeting in the Old Campfield Pub on Heyworth street and outlined their initial proposals for the restoration and proposals for obtaining Heritage Lottery funding for the refurbishment of the building into a Community Hub, Its great to see how far the initial exploratory work has  progressed since then, and the way the Community are getting behind the Plans. Ill get down to the Academy a week on Friday and take look, Ta for the Update.

There was a meeting, over in Marine's social club,a few months ago! Where it was suggested, that the community could take over the day-to-day running of the library, but I haven't heard anything since?!

Another nice library there Lizzie. They sure knew how to build them then.

Anyone have any up date to Liste Drive library? Anyone know what is going on there? I notice as I crossed over Green Lane today (Old Swan end)  that there is something being erected down there. Anyone know what that is?
