Jan

1909 clubmoor,,,,can anyone give me any info on this ,,Jan xx

brainbox

Thats a great Pic.. The stream ,as the label says, is the Tue Brook prior to it being culverted...its just the exact location in Clubmoor to be identified...one possibility is that the Road could be the original Carriageway up to The Larkhill House and its Estate

Thanks BB ,, had a feeling it was a good photo ,, perhaps the others will be able to add more info ,,,,,Jan xx Very Happy

It is now,Jan! There are several streams in that area, that have been culverted, including the "Tew Brook",hence the name! If you remember the roundabout in Tuebrook, there were recently, some major works carried out on the culverts,to prevent the constant flooding of the area!
Jan

Thanks for info mojo ,, i put the pic up on other sites and got this info,, from other people,,,,,,,,,,,,

This still flows to this day but It's in pipes. You can still hear it flowing if yo stand over an access grid on the corner of Cherrry Lane and Richard Kelly Drive. The stream rose in Smithdown Rd Cemetery and merges with The Alt around Maghull

,,,,,Oh ! I believe It's called The Tue as in Tuebrook

,,,, I think the only place you can still see the brook is over a wall behind the old picture house.
brainbox

All good info MOJO and Jan...there is a pic out there of the Stream just off to the rear of The old Carlton Cinema..
heres a bit of info... it differs from the account you have been given Jan, but I think this one is correct.

'Tuebrook ( Tew Brook named after the Norse God “Tiu” ) is now enclosed in a culvert under ground. It can be seen above ground behind the carlton Cinema for a short distance.

The source of the Tuebrook can be traced to a spring on Old Swan Hill which is now called Edge Lane. The Brook flows from here and takes a course down St. Oswald Street it then winds its way down Prescot Road and then down Green Lane. behind the Carlton Cinema is the only place that the Brook flows freely overground as it is piped or culverted, from here it heads toward Lisburn Lane a large pool formed roughly by the roundabout it then flows down Lisburn Lane then onto Maiden Lane.'
Barbie

Nice one Beeb. Good thread, lots of history.
brainbox

Tue Brook House..West Derby Road......Reputably the Oldest House in Liverpool...complete with 'Secret'  Priest Hole....The Tew Brook at one time would have openly flowed by close to here .

MOJO

....and as far as I know,a council property? Nice pic's B.B.!
Jan

what a lovely house,,jeeez have those walls been painted though??? or is it just the light ,, surely it must be listed ,,,,Jan x

Jan wrote:

Jan. I cant definitely identify the location of that pic, but if it is Merseyside ,then looking across the water to what would be Wirral, and the lack of any significant lanmarks ,It would tend to suggest that it was the North End of the Docks, looking out towards Seacombe and New Brighton Shoreline,,plus, The only dock I have ever seen with a low built brick wall such as that was the Gladstone Dock , Bootle. as shown here in this pic of the famous Bootle Bull Lighthouse

Jan

Thanks for your comments ,, it's a tricky one ,,, I haven't seen it before ,,,,,,,,Jan x Very Happy

What is it Barbie? looks like industrial units ,, I expect it's ok if in a industrial area  ,,,Jan x
brainbox

It doesn't look like its on The Mall, so I guess the privileged position inside Buck House is out then   Laughing  Laughing

It looks like  a Health Cente
Barbie

I've been told it is going to be an old Person's home but I've not had this confirmed.
It is being built between the once was Knotty Ash pub, (now a furniture place) and Knotty Ash school. The metal fencing and barbed wire will no doubt be replaced with  a wall or fence.
brainbox

That structure went up quickly..  I know exactly where you mean barbie . that was an open building site only a very short time ago.......I now know the Privileged position ,,,and Before anyone says  No , it wasnt taken from Doddys Diddy house

Laughing  Laughing
Barbie

I don't like the building. I think it a 'modern monstrosity', looks more a secure unit than on OAP's gaff!
MOJO

....but similar to many new buildings that have gone up lately, like the one's D.P. posted recently!
Barbie

Yes Mojo, being an old fat and a lover of the past, I not to happy wit it all.  Confused
Jan

To me it looks like a temporary structure,,very modern ,, yes mojo similar to DP's pics ,, fine if in the right position ,, not mixed in with old listed buildings though,,,,,,,,,,,, try to get some pics when it's finished Barbie ,, our views might change hahaha doubt it though ,,,,Jan x Very Happy

It's totaly out of place amongst the old Knotty buildings in my opinion Jan, of course other people may like it and that's fine.
Jan

It's such a shame ,,when the councils allow this ,,,a little more thought in the planning ,,, would keep everyone happy,,,,,,Jan x
Barbie

That's it though Jan, you can't keep everyone happy all the time can you? Some people would like all the old stuff to be razed to the ground and modern all built up, some of us want to keep  the old.
I just accept it that I can't do anything about it.  Confused

Can you tell where this is? I can, I know it's quite obvious where it is, but hey, tis fun having a go.
Taken before any derelection. Any ideas on the year?
brainbox

Yes its all change there nowadays, Its the top of Brunswick Road were it meets Low Hill--West derby Rd and Everton Rd junction.

Hippodrome Cinema on Right ....Grant Gardens  over to the left and St Emmanuell Church in the Far distance.
The two Gregsons well pubs would flank left & right of the Cameraman [woman]

Looks 1960s.. I think the church was demolished mid 70s    not sure though would have to google it.
Barbie

I didn't know the gardens were called that till you said. My memory of them is taking the skin off my shin climbing one of the small walls, which I noticed last week have all gone. I still have that scar!

You should have worn your tough Cherry reds  Razz

Yes Grant Gardens     used to be the Necropolis Cemetery, and it was used for the after ceremony photoshoots for Marriages at Brougham terrace which is just passed the Hippodrome.

Alice

Thanks B.B. I wondered where that was and yes Barbie it is a lovely pic.

I took this pic today also, was at the bus stop outside James St Station. I wasn't going to put it up as it quite an awful shot, far too much light getting into my camera. Anyway, decided to risk it as all I want to know is, what is or was it? I remember the Merc show rooms beyond it but they were modern. I don't even know what to google to check it out. Helpppppp!

MOJO

The red brick building is a pumping station for Merseyrail,as far as I know! Smile
Barbie

Ta Mojo, I'll have a google round later when I got time.
Barbie

Can I have some help on this please? Was this opposite Blacklers?
What was NEMS?

Jan

brainbox

This is Whitechapel barbie.Part of it was the home of Nems, it's now demolished and the Forever 21 store is being constructed on the site..
Rex Makin Solicitors had all of the upper floors and has now relocated further along whitechapel opposite the Met Quarter
The open creak of the Pool of Liverpool originally flowed along here , towards what is now Paradise street and on into the Mersey. Its still there but today it is  culverted underground
MOJO

N.E.M.S. was North End Music Stores, the record shop where Brian Epstein was the manager, and who went on to manage the fab four!
