I've never heard of Val Smith....however, might it have been a male's name? Or can you tell me what Val Smith sold?

It was Madame Val Smith, and as much as I know, she sold women's clothing, but possibly more! I've just had a look, and can't see much about her,or the shop!?

They had an exhibition of some of these clothes, in Sudley House, a few years ago! Still haven't found anything on Val Smith??

Sorry, I posted that link without any text...I did mean to say that it was popular with Emily Tinne. I've seen those clothes up in Sudley, took pics of them too,. they're probably on here somewhere.

Anyway....Been asking the super sleuths on Facebook and here is what tey came up with.
1. The shop doesn't stand where GHL once did, that building to the left of the photo is Hendersons. See this photo, check out those 'pillars' on each photo....

Also, Madam Val Smith never existed as a mortal... Razz

So, there we have the mystery solved......but who was Charles William goudge?  Razz

That looks right, and it must have been replaced by this bank building, which has had it's frontage altered, and is now "phones 4 us" !!

I wonder why Mr.Goudge traded under a woman's name?!
