I would say that up to those times and a little later on too, that the average working class Housewife spend virtually every waking momemt in keeping the home ticking over from Preparing meals & Cooking for the family, Washing by hand , Dishes and clothes including Dirty Nappies in a Metal Bucket, through to Doing the daily shopping cos no fridges or freezers... Cleaning the House... Minding the Children, and many other chores as and when they arose.  I dont think looking after their own personal appearance in any serious way was ever a possibility..... My,0h My !.. how times have changed.

Times have changed but mums don't have it easy!

Their are still jobs to be done!  Ironing, shopping, hand washing, drying, hoovering, child minding, walking to and from school with the children, cooking, washing the dishes, changing the beds, taking them to the dentist and doctors etc. etc.

And some mums have a job as well!

Mums really are on call 24 hours a day unlike men!

Great Pic of the Pickers  Razz
I wouldnt mind betting that was the first occasion for many of those Men and Woman to actually have had their photograph taken.

The second one reminds me of 60s pics you see of the Beverley Sisters
