I've now learned something about the Railways  so Not such an Airhead reply Barbie.
There are stories of Children regularly swimminmg in those Emergency Water Supplies which were dotted about all over the place for firefighting  purposes.
Unfortuntely some of the stories talk about deaths through drowning which is really sad.

Good One MOJO, I only found out about the place today and looking at the desolate location of it I was thinking what a hard life the Soldiers must have had billeted there in the Winter months during WW2.
After looking at the pic you have posted it looks like there were in fact, plenty of distractions to take their minds off the Long Dark cold Winter Nights

Thanks MOJO. its good to know there is still remants that survive to mark the spot and provide recognition of the camp and its occupants during those days of WW2.

It's strange,as I lived in crosby,during the mid-60's,but I don't remember any mention of it,or it's demolition in 1967! Apparently,it was used to house german p.o.w.'s,after the war!

...a couple of "action" pic's! Smile
