Last Saturday the owners of Albion House the former HQ of The White Star Line threw open the doors to of a portion of the building for the general Public to wander and view this historic building.
It is currently in the process of being converted to a Hotel / Restaurant Wedding function complex.....Elswhere in the Forum I have expressed my unease at the descision to use the Theme of the Titanic for the new development and think it is disrepectful to those who died and their living relatives... Others have other views and thats fine. That being said, and after visiting it myself on Saturday, the money being injected into the project by the owners is sure to guarantee survival of the building well into the future as it appears internally to have been in an extremely dilapidated state prior to its recent sale.
The building was publicised as being open for viewing from 10am until 1pm and I think the owners underestimated the interest and affection  this building has with the people of Liverpool / Merseyside, and beyond, as there were 2 queues starting at the James St entrace, one wound its way down to the Strand, turned the corner and continued along the perimeter of the building along the Strand. The other queue wound its way in the other direction upwards along James street.
I reckon both queues were a constant 100 people deep for the full 3 hrs and thousands of people crammed through those historic doors. The upper floor tours were cancelled part way through the viewing period due to the sheer volume of visitors wishing to enter the building.
Ive included here a few pics of the images i took on the day..

Upper Floors being renovated.

Main Entrance Plaque

It took ages just to get to this point..

Chocka Block all day long..

The main Ground floor area, The 'Ship-like' original Ironwork Construction of the building has been uncovered as part of the refurb..

The view looking out from the Strand Side of the building,,,,Really nice.

The view looking out of the James Street side of the building across to.....Really Ugly !

The whole of the building is one massive building site at present, being divided up into compartments to suit its new use.--Upper Floor

Thank you for sharing the pics Beeb! Looks like it was one busy place. Not keen on queuing for ages like that, it should have been open for longer to accommodate so many people for the tour. I've always loved this building and yet never seen inside it. I have now though thanks. I hope to maybe get on the next tour.
Great pics, cheers.  Cool
