Emlyn Hughes' widow and daughter speak of "irreplaceable" Liverpool FC captain 10 years on from his death

Towards the end as she helped him into bed or on to the sofa, Emlyn Hughes would look intently into wife Barbara’s eyes and say: “We’ve had a lovely life haven’t we?”

It is almost 10 years since a brain tumour claimed the life of the life of one of Britain’s most famous and inspirational sportsmen, and that positive outlook, cheerful in the very face of death, is among the many memories that his family treasure.

In that decade, grieving wife Barbara and her children Emma and Emlyn have never talked about their devastation at losing him at just 57 in November 2004.

But now in today’s exclusive interview Barbara and Emma open up about the “irreplaceable” man known to millions by his nickname Crazy Horse, the skipper of an illustrious Liverpool side and the England team, before he brought his infectious enthusiasm to TV quiz A Question of Sport.

They are doing it for the charity Brain Tumour Research to raise awareness of the disease that took Emlyn’s life.

He attained great Success with Liverpool and had a fine Career with England too. I think the one thing that marrs his standing s one of the all time Liverpool greats was his incitement of the Crowd to Sing 'Liverpool are Magic-Everton are Tragic", at Liverpool's European Successful City Centre homecoming in 1977, even though lots of Everton fans were amongst the welcoming crowd
Tommy Smith never forgave him for that.

I liked him when I was a kid. I remember me and my mate running through the ground's car park and when we saw him getting into his car we were screaming like well, errrrm, what we were, 12 year old school girls. He just shook his head with a smile on his face. We near wet ourselves cos we giggled so much.
